December 8, 2013

The meeting was called to order at 2:05 PM by Vice-President Mike Schnell.

President Todd called en-route to the meeting that he was executing a 180 due to complications from the BB flu.

In attendance were Mike, Gene, Neil, Marc, Jason, Richard, and Ken

The minutes of the November meeting were loosely recalled by Neil, Mike and Ken.

Neil reported Bud called and the Capella will be waiting until the Spring thaws arrive. It is Neil's intention to go to Greencastle and fly again in the Capella once Bud has returned from his Florida sojourn and re-installs the wings.

The question was raised if the EAA responds to submissions about Young Eagle flights. It seems they are very quiet until after the year ends and then acknowledge flights of ten, fifty, etc eagles with pins, hats, etc.

Since this was the last meeting for the year it was decided to elect officers for the coming year as we have done in the past. Mike Schnell was nominated to be President, Marc Hines was nominated to be Vice-President, Gene Will was nominated to be Treasurer, Richard Murray was nominated to be Secretary. No further nominations were made and so the four were elected by acclamation of the members present.

Mike acknowledge he had done Young Eagles for many years and wanted to pass the Chairmanship of that program on to another. Tina Strobel and Neil Winget were nominated to co-chair the Young Eagles program for our Chapter.

A unique individual, who was previously a member of the chapter, was discussed with less than complimentary comments by the elders of the Chapter.

The topic of whether our Chapter should start a Chapter project from which we could learn from our experience and possibly sell the completed project was discussed with mixed feelings.

The subject of an annual dinner was raised with no further discussion.

Neil shared his P-40 story, how as a young lad he happened upon a derelict P-40 and for lack of funds he and his friends didn't buy it. That plane is now on display at the Museum of the Air Force in Dayton, Ohio with a vignette of the Capella Kid for all in attendance to go with it.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:40 PM upon a motion by Ken seconded by Jason.

October 13, 2013

Ann Vogel, Richard Murray, Mike Schnell, Ken Boyd, Todd Bills, Neil Winget and Tina Strobel

President Todd Bills called the meeting to order at 2:00 PM.

No Meeting notes from September, officers were all out of state.

Old Business:

Mike reports on the Reno air-races: Jet man was there but had one of his 4 engines have trouble so no show from him. Enjoyed some air show activities and remodeled Hellcat ran into a Jeep chopped up the hood. Had a good time.

Boy Scout Jamboree - had a good turn out, had a lot of planes and people flying. Gave 180 kids rides. Total success for the scouts. Gave demonstrations of avionics and blew wind over wings for demonstrations. Had a T-6 lit up for a night air show with fireworks.

New Business:

Dayton Tower tour-Todd gave an education of the working of an elevator (both ways). Met Michael Jackson, he was very knowledgeable and gave us a tour of the equipment rooms. Met "Crystal the pistol" and had a foggy view of the airport from the tower.

Todd and Richard took a trip to Muncie. Todd got ready for his Arizona trip and flew to Sporty's.

Ann reports a man from Oklahoma called asking about a Cub. It was a man who bought Walt's Cub (N24WV) and they were going to have it repainted. He offered up a before and after picture of the paint job. He emailed pictures and she found they named the Cub "Uncle Walt".  Brought the pictures to share.

Ken is hoping to have his project painted in a couple of weeks and reported, he'll run out of nice weather before he does paint.

Dick doesn't want to talk about the Champ. Had a larger hole on the rudder hinge than he expected. Needed some additional bushings and now finds the hole is too small for the part. So….hmm

Mike and Tina emailed Jake about Sidney's Young Eagles the weather was not good in the morning and neither of them ended up going.

Tina flew to Marion with radio/mic issues, borrowed a handheld from a nice person (Thanks Dick) and had first experience with gliders.

Mike flew to Urbana and saw all kinds of airplanes out and about. He has 96 (now 99) landings in the WACO - Mike if Tina would have done the math prior to the Waco ride she may have requested one more landing in order to be part of the 100th landing.

No treasurer report: Gene sent notice he was not able to make it.

Mike offered up rides in the WACO and Todd took the first and came back with a excitement and and extra bounce in his step. Ann went next and showed Todd to make a graceful entrance into the beast. Finally Tina was given a ride and found great fun in the lazy 8's Mike demonstrated.

Todd adjoined the meeting at 2:40 PM on motion by Mike and Neil second.

Thank you Ken Boyd and Dick Heiby for being Payload Specialists and get our Young Eagles loaded and de-planed in a safe efficient manner. It would not have flowed well without you.

Thank you Jon Bailey and Ann Vogel for addressing the registration and certificates for our Young Eagles. Your efforts contributed to the success we enjoyed and made the event memorable for all involved.

Thank you Neil 'Hollywood' Winget who filled a void Walt Vogel left by explaining aerodynamics and airplanes to our guests, in addition to your efforts contacting the local media and your stellar Channel 35 appearance.

Thank you Wade and your Aztec from Sidney for helping fly several sorties early in the day.

Thank you Mike Schnell, Tina Strobel, Richard Murray, Brent Ritcher, and Todd Bills for flying our Young Eagles.

Thank you Russ Hovie for the $200.00 donation in gasoline supplied for aircraft flying Young Eagles.

Thank you someone for the donuts that served to sustain us throughout the morning.

Mike, Tina, and Neil well done organizing this years event. One hundred ten Young Eagles flown and the comments overheard from the parents were gratitude to our chapter providing this opportunity for their children to experience flight on a personal basis.

Thank you we couldn't have done it without you.
