December 11, 2011

Todd Bills, president, called the December meeting of Chapter 922 to order with the following members present: Todd Bills, Ken Boyd, Marc Hines, Dick Murray, Dick Heiby, Neil Winget, Mike Schnell, and Walt Vogel. Also present was Ann Vogel, guest.


The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The treasurer was not present, however, he emailed a balance to Walt of $344.26.

Old Business: The winter dinner meeting was discussed. After reviewing the list of possible restaurants, it was decided to go to C J High Marks in Celina on February 25, 2012, at 6 pm. Ann was asked to take care of reservations.

Neil presented an idea for club patches. His suggestion was liked by all. Todd will check with Coldwater EMB about making them for us.

Officers for next year were discussed. After a very short discussion, Neil and Ken moved that the same officers be elected for another year. Motion was carried very quickly. Officers for 2012 will be: Todd Bills, president; Mike Schnell, vice-president; Walter Vogel, secretary; and Gene Will, treasurer.

New Business: Todd then passed out certificates and pins of appreciation to the officers from the national EAA office.

The “snow melt” pool was discussed. It was decided to have it again for this winter. Bets were placed on when the last of the snow would disappear from the ramp at AXV. Those in on the “pool” and dates are: Todd Bills - April 20; Mike Schnell - April 6; Neil Winget - April 7; Ken Boyd - June 1; Walt Vogel- May 5; Marc Hines - April 10; Dick Heiby - March 29; Dick Murray - April 21. The cost to join the “pool” is $5, with the one closest to the date winning one half of the money, the other half goes to the chapter fund. Others are welcome to participate.

Dick Murray announced that the FAA has instituted courses for pilots to attend if they are planning to fly certain areas. For example, the Hudson River in New York City and certain areas in Florida. Dick also showed a propeller from an RV4.

Walt reported that one wing is completed and is working on the other wing.

Ken wanted to know where he could buy fabric for seat coverings.

Mike told us his experiences of going to Catalina Island last week.

Members were reminded that this is the season for critters to find winter housing in the airplanes, so put in a couple of sheets of the fabric softener “Bounce” in your aircraft.

The meeting was adjourned by Dick Murray and Neil Winget after the Christmas cookies and treats were just about gone

November 13, 2011

Mike Schnell, Vice-President, called the Chapter 922 meeting to order on November 13 at 2:00 pm with the following members present: Walt Vogel, Dick Murray, Marc Hines, Mick Schnell, Gene Will and Neil Winget. Also present was Ann Vogel, guest.

The two designs of patches was passed around. No decision was made. That will be discussed again next month.

The Young Eagles Day was discussed. We had plenty of planes, pilots, and people available to help, but no one to fly. There were finally five that showed up. It was decided that next year we should try again in June rather than in the Fall, and the club need to improve on publicity.

A winter dinner meeting was also discussed. It was decided to have it on Saturday, February 25, 2012. Mike appointed Neil and Ann to come up with a list of possible places.

Project reports: Dick said that about two hours will complete his annual on the 150. He also reported that Lima has several aircraft for sale.

Neil reported that the EAA and AOPA are suggesting that a drivers license be used to fly certain aircraft. They are in the process of sending a proposal to FAA for comments.

Dick also reported on the latest Webinars from EAA on the net. The last was about the annual inspections on aircraft.

Gene reported that he flew his airplane one evening and because of the time change, it became dark sooner that expected.

October 8, 2011

EAA Chapter 922 met October 8, 2011, in preparation for the Young Eagles Day held later that morning. Members present were: Todd Bills, Neil Winget, Dick Murray, Mike Schnell and Walt Vogel. Guests were John Bailey and Ann Vogel.

Set up for the Young Eagles event was completed and rolls and coffee were furnished by Hovey’s Aviation for members and guests to enjoy.

The meeting was called to order by Todd Bills, president. Members reviewed ideas for patches. There was some discussion. There may be more ideas at the next meeting when more discussion will take place. A winter dinner meeting was suggested. That also will be discussed at the next meeting. Members were reminded that dues will be collected in December.

Next meeting will be November 13.

September 11, 2011

In attendance: Gene Will, Mike Schnell, Ken Boyd, Dick Murrary, Rudy, and Todd Bills.

Old Business:
Discussed Young Eagles fly-in tentatively set for October 8th.

Todd Bills and Dick Murrary will check availability of aircraft.

New Business:

Gene told the group about his ride through Black Hills State Park on his rented Harley.

Todd brought information to the group about chapter patches. The cost for the patches will be 257 dollars for fifty patches. 

The group agreed to submit designed for the patches before any final decision is made.
Gene told the group that the picnic was a complete success. Fifty people were served burgers and brats. The highlight of the evening was the surprise visit by the National Guard helicopter.

Rich volunteered to ferry a Carlson to New Knoxville for Walt.
Rudy spoke about the speech given by Hightower. He stated it was very informative.

WACO fly-in is Sept. 17th and 24th.

The treasure reported that the group has $169.26.

August 14, 2011

EAA chapter 922 met August 14, 2011 at AXV. Todd Bills, president, called the meeting to order. There were six members present: Walt Vogel, Gene Will, Todd Bills, Rudy Schneidhorst. Mike Schnell and Neil Winget. There were also three guests present: John Bailey, Gavin Bailey and Ann Vogel. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

Old business: The upcoming Young Eagles event was discussed. It was decided to put an article in The Daily Standard this year. The event will begin at 9:00 am, with the pilots meeting to be held at 8:00 a. Sporty’s Pilot furnishes log books for the participants. The event is for young people ages 8 to 17. It will be held October 8.

The money for the “snow pool” will be held over until next year as members could not decide who should receive the money or when the snow left the airport!

It was reported that Gene Will’s cookout was a huge success. There were approximately 50 in attendance.

New Business: Todd asked the members if there was any interest in a club patch. Todd is to check on the prices from the suggested web site from EAA. Neil will also scratch out a design. Todd also reported on the President’s meeting he attended while at Oshkosh.

Todd also spoke of his experiences at Oshkosh this year. He volunteered and had some interesting stories. He also brought pictures to show.

It was announced that the SAA had a gathering in Urbana, Illinois this past June. The MERFI will soon be held this year.

Walt Vogel and Mike Schnell moved the meeting be adjourned. After the meeting the Young Explores were planning to meet.

EAA Chapter 922 met July 10, at AXV. Seven members, Walt Vogel, Tom Fortman, Marc Hines, Neil Winget, Gene Will, Todd Bills and Mike Schnell were present. Also present was Ann Vogel, guest.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The treasurer reported that the balance remains the same at $169.26.

Old Business: Discussion concerning holding the Young Eagles day was held. It is hoped that we have Mike S., Todd B., Dick M. flying and possibly Brent R. Gene W. will check again with his insurance company. After reviewing dates, the group decided to hold the Young Eagle event on Saturday, October 8.

Mike S. and Todd B. announced that they flew a few Young Eagles last month. Todd B. announced that neither one of our members who was nominated for an EAA award were winners. Todd B. also announced that he will be attending the president forum at Oshkosh this year.

New Business: Gene W. announced that the annual picnic will be held in Gene’s hanger on August 11. Walt and Marc will help set up the night before and Todd will bring the drinks. Meat will be provided and members are to bring spouses/guests and a covered dish.

Todd B. and Gene W. told of their recent experiences of flying.

June 12, 2011

EAA Chapter 922 met June 12, 2011 at 2:00 pm at AXV. There were five members and one guest present. Those present were: Marc Hines, Dick Murray, Todd Bills, Walt Vogel, Mike Schnell and Ann Vogel, guest.
   
President Todd Bills called the meeting to order and asked that the May minutes be read. They were read and approved. There was no treasurer’s report. Last month the balance was $169.26.

Old Business: The Young Eagles Day was discussed. It was decided to try to have our Young Eagles Day in the fall, possibly September. We will attempt to get a newspaper article in The Daily Standard this time. Mike S. announced that next weekend he is planning to go to Goshen, IN to fly a few Young Eagles.

There was not any new business, however there was still plenty of hanger talk. Todd B. told the group that he flew with someone to Greenville, SC, picked up parts and then on to Appleby, IA where they were delivered to the John Deere plant. He also has been busy working on his airplane project with the engine being “dry built”. Dick M. announced that there was a new private pilot, and briefly told of her experiences of purchasing an aircraft. The conversation then went to discussing the pro and con of tig and gas welding.
   
The Explorer Scout group met today and Todd was going to take a few up for a ride. They will also try to go to Urbana Wednesday to see the Ford Tri-Motor.

May 15, 2011


EAA chapter 922 met May 15, 2011 at 2:00 pm at AXV. The meeting was postponed one week due to Mother’s Day. There were six members and one guest in attendance. Those attending were: Marc Hines, Dick Murray, Tom Fortman, Ken Boyd Gene Will and Walt Vogel. Ann Vogel was a guest.

Due to the absence of the president and vice-president, the secretary, Walt Vogel asked Dick Murray to preside over the meeting. The minutes from the previous meeting were read. The treasurer reported a balance of $169.26 in the treasury.

There was no official old or new business however there was no lack of hanger talk. There were many interesting discussions concerning airplane related activities.

Dick reported that he, Walt and Todd attended EAA Chapter 2 meeting last Friday at Smith Field in Ft. Wayne. The program wasn’t exactly as they had hoped it to be. They did learn that they have a Young Eagles program every month.

Walt reported on his Belite and what the company had done so far. One was about heating and shrinking aluminum and things to watch. Another one was about the flight physicals that a couple took this winter.

An article about painting an aircraft with house paint was passed around.

The “Snow Pool” will be paid next month. Hangers are available to rent at CQA.

Ken brought along some “show and tell” items. He demonstrated his new LED Nav lights, and his HID (High Intensity Discharge) light, and the Pidot tube he had made.

Todd Bills, President, called Chapter 922 to order at 2:00 pm with six members and one guest present. Those present were: Dick Heiby, Dick Murray, Todd Bills, Marc Hines, Rudy Schneidhorst, Walt Vogel and Ann Vogel guest.


The secretary’s report was read and approved. There was no treasurer’s report.
Old Business: It was reported that the Young Explorers went to the National Air force Museum today. It was suggested that they try to go down to New Carlisle for a tour at their airport. Walt reported that he did not obtain all the parts for his Belite project. (Chapter members volunteered to go to Kansas and knock on somebody’s door!) It was also decided to table the Young Eagles project until next meeting.


New Business: Todd had papers to fill out for outstanding awards. Dick Murray nominated Mike Schnell for the Young Eagles award. Walt Vogel nominated Dick Murray for the Web Editor award. Dick and Todd will fill out the paper work.


Mention was made of the International Fun to Fly day. No action was taken.


Walt mentioned that Joe Diamond of St. Marys had a Mitchell Wing for sale. It was also announced that a pilot from Portland lost his life in an airplane. He was also managing the airport at Lakefield. There are rentals still available at CQA.


Todd announced that we have the Certificate of Insurance. The secretary will keep it.


Marc Hines is interested in selling his CGS Ultra Hawk.


Todd is getting checked out in a 172 soon, as he will be flying a friend on a special mission on May 7, weather permitting.

March 13, 2011

EAA Chapter 922 met on March 13, 2011, 2 pm at AXV. Members present were: Mike Schnell, Marc Hines, Neil Winget, Dick Murray, Ken Boyd, Todd Bills and Walt Vogel. Also present was guest, Ann Vogel.

The meeting was called to order by President Todd Bills. The secretary’s report was read and approved. Gene Will, treasurer, was unable to attend, but he sent a treasurers report of a balance of $119.26. His report will be filed for audit.

Old Business: Since there is still snow on the airport grounds, the pool will go on. It was announced that the Young Explorers will be taking a field trip to the Dayton airport. It was suggested that the Young Explorers try to attend Oshkosh sometime.

Pictures were shown of Ken’s and Todd’s projects.

New Business: Discussion was held about having another Young Eagles day. The group thought it would be a good idea to have another one this year, but then not have one next year. Date and time will need to be decided at the next meeting.

Walt brought up the idea that there have been articles published about using house paint to paint an airplane.

Neil announced that he hopes to have a runway put in around Hume this summer.

Walt announced that he has ordered a kit and should be arriving before the end of the month.

Members in attendance enjoyed “munchies” of pretzels during the meeting.

Neil and Mike moved that the meeting be adjourned.

Todd Bills, president called the February meeting of Chapter 922 to order at 2 pm at AXV. Members present were; Marc Hines, Dick Murray, Todd Bills, Gene Will, Neil Winget, Walt Vogel. Guests were: Ann Vogel and Dick Smallwood.
    Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Gene gave a balance in the treasury of $311.26.
    During the business meeting, papers were fill out for the national EAA office. Gene paid $227.00 in fees to the national EAA Chapter. Gene also paid $20 for the scout charter.
    Todd told of his experiences of picking up his fuselage for the Double Eagle that he is building. He also has started putting the engine together. His most valuable lesson that he has learned thus far, is that he needs to wear his glasses when working on his project!
    The group decided to have a “snow pool” It is open to anyone. The meeting where there is no more snow on the airport for the season will share the winnings with the chapter.

January 9, 2011

 EAA Chapter 922 met January 9, at AXV, with president Dick Murray calling the meeting to order 2:00 pm. Seven members and two guests were present.
    Minutes from the November and December meetings were read and approved. There was no treasurer’s report.
    The first item of business was to elect officers for the 2011 year. Those elected were: Todd Bills, President; Mike Schnell, Vice-President; Walt Vogel, Secretary; Gene Will, Treasurer.
    There being no further old business, the meeting was turned over to the new president, Todd Bills.
    Members were reminded that when an airplane is rented, you don’t make any money! It was also announced that the FAA may start requiring pictures on pilot’s licenses. Any pilot wanting practice in landing at a controlled field should go to Ft. Wayne.
    Todd Bills announced that he will pick up his fuselage this weekend and that he will be starting putting together his engine soon.
    It was announced that dues will be collected at the February meeting. ( After the meeting was adjourned, Gene Will was there for a few minutes and he collected dues.)
    The meeting was adjourned by Ken Boyd and Neil Winget.
