EAA Chapter 922 met Thursday. October 12. 2017, 7:00 pm at AXV for their fall meeting.  

Members in attendance were: Mike Schnell, Russ Hovey, Neil Winget, Matt Bailey, Ann Vogel, Richard Murray and Ken Boyd.  Bob Sacks sent his regrets.

There was no treasury report.

Old Business: It was decided that the pancake breakfast was a success with  $205 added to the treasury after paying $106 in bills.  There were six airplanes that flew in and approximately 40 people showed up to enjoy the pancakes and sausages.

Mike Schnell commented that Chapter 922 sponsored two Young Eagle events this year by taking the space camp kids from Neil Armstrong museum for a short flight.

New Business: New officers for the next two years were selected.  
They are as follows:  President, Matt Bailey; Vice-President, Rick Haines; Secretary, Russ Hovey; Treasurer, Ken Boyd.  Their term of office will begin January 1, 2018.  

Meetings will be held: April 14, June 14, August 11 and October 13.   The first and last meeting will be held at 7 pm, the middle meetings will be held at 10 am.

Ken brought cupcakes to celebrate his birthday.

No further business – meeting was adjourned.

August 12, 2017

Members of EAA 922 were busy during the second week of August. On Tuesday, August 8, fourteen Young Eagles were given a ride as part of the space camp put on by the Neil Armstrong museum.  Mike Schnell and Ralph Shindeldecker gave rides with help from Gary Davis and Ann Vogel.

On Friday afternoon, August 11, members met at AXV and helped with the setting up for the Pancake Breakfast.  After set-up, members enjoyed a round of brats.  Yum, yum!

Saturday, August 12, 2017 members gathered around 6 am for the Pancake Day.  Pancakes, sausages, orange juice, and coffee were offered for a donation.  It was estimated that around forty attended the event.  It had been many years since one was held, so it was deemed successful by those attending.

Next meeting will be held Thursday, October 12, 7:00 pm at AXV.

June 10, 2017

President Ken Boyd opened the meeting of EAA Chapter 922

June 10, 10:00 a. at AXV with the following members present: Mike Schnell, Bob Sachs, Neil Winget, Ken Boyd, Richard Murray, Russ Hovey, Matt Bailey and Ann Vogel. There was no treasury report given.

Old Business: Mike Schnell announced that Tuesday June 13 members will be flying the space camp kids starting at 9:30. There should not be any more than thirty. On August 8, another group will be taken for a ride.

Discussion was held about having a pancake breakfast before the next meeting. Ken and Matt volunteered to be co-chairman. It will be held from 7:30 am to 10:30 am on Saturday August 12. Mike will send out email and Neil will make a flier to sent to neighboring airports. It will be held rain or shine with a set-up on Friday night.

New Business: It was announced that Winchester will have a pancake day tomorrow; Urbana, next weekend; and Springfield will hold a vintage airplane show the weekend before Oshkosh.

There was no other business. Meeting adjourned.

April 20, 2017

EAA Chapter 922 met Thursday, April 20 at 7:00 pm at AXV. Members present were: Richard Murray, Neil Winget, Matt Bailey, Mike Schnell, Ken Boyd and Ann Vogel. Ralph Holthouse was also present and joined.

Old Business: It was announced that EAA 922 has paid the Chapter

Dues for 2017. Gene Will, treasurer, reported via email the treasurer’s report. Balance on hand January 1, 2017, $168.76; February 4, deposit of $200; February 4, paid EAA dues of $359. Balance today is $9.76.

New Business: Mike Schnell announced that the Space Camp attendees would like an airplane ride as we have provided in the past. Pilots will be reimbursed for fuel. There will be about thirty children in each session. The first group of Space Camp fliers will take place on Tuesday, June 13, and the second group will be on Tuesday, August 8. The rain dates for both will be the next day. Mike will make application to EAA for the proper paper work.

Discussion was held on holding a pancake day in the future. Plans for that event will be finalized at the next meeting.

The next meeting will be Saturday, June 10, 10:00 am, at AXV.

Entertainment for the evening was watching the thunderstorm and cloud formation that was south of the airport.

Five members of EAA Chapter met at AXV for the October meeting.

New Business: It was announced that there will no longer be a MERFI gathering. It was also announced that Matt Bailey has resigned as Manager of AXV.

June 9, 2016

Prior to the meeting members and guests enjoyed eating brats, beans and chips. 2016 June Meeting and Cookout Pictures

Ken opened the meeting at 7:45 pm with all members attending. Those in attendance were: Mike S., Bob S., Neil W., Dick M., Russ H., Gene W., Matt B. and Ann V.

Old Business: It was decided to have a fly-out on Saturday, July 23.
Plans are to leave AXV around 10:00 am and fly to Kalamazoo, MI where there is a restaurant and a museum. More details to follow.

It was announced that twenty -seven Young Eagles from the Space Camp were flown on June 7, with the following pilots helping: Gene Will, Bob Sachs, Ralph Shindeldecker, Gary Davis and Mike Schnell. Others that helped were: Neil Winget, Josh Winget, and Ann Vogel.

New Business: Out next meeting will be Thursday, August 11, starting with a cook out in Gene’s hanger. He will invite the group from Versailles to join us. This event was cancelled last year due to work schedule.

It was announced that there will be a couple of local air shows and displays this summer.

On a beautiful Saturday Morning at 10:00 am, Dick Murray, Mike Schnell, Matt Bailey, Bob Sachs, Ken Boyd, Neil Winget and Ann Vogel met at AXV for their meeting. Later, Gary Lutz and Sean Schmehl joined us.

President Ken opened the meeting with Old business. Mike announced that our chapter is registered with the National EAA. We had to cover the cost of liability insurance of about $200.

The Young Eagles program was discussed. It was decided by consensus that we would fly the Space Camp attendees. Mike will coordinate the event. It will probably take place on two separate days.

At a previous meeting a cookout was suggested for a future meeting. At the next meeting, Thursday, June 9, 7:00 pm there will be a cookout. The menu will be brats (brought by Dick); beans (brought by Mike); chips (brought by Neil) and drinks (BYOB). Reservations must be made and Ann will relay the number of people attending.

New Business:

Dick announced that he registered Neil Armstrong Airport Aviators as a Club with the the AOPA with hopes of winning a 150.

It was suggested that members present a topic of discussion at the meeting. Many ideas were presented. The group was also interested in participating in a Fly-Out. 

Suggestions were given: Muncie, Coldwater or Kalamazoo. Additional plans will be made at the next meeting.

Neil shared with the group some of his experiences at Sun ‘n Fun.

Other non-aviation topics were also discussed.

EAA Chapter 922 Meeting was held in the Terminal Building at Neil Armstrong Airport on March 13, 2:00pm.  The following members were present:  Marc Hines, Ann Vogel, Richard Murray, Ken Boyd, Matt Bailey, Gene Will, Mike Schnell, and Neil Winget.

President Marc Hines called the meeting to order at 2:03pm.

Old Business

Our main item of business at this meeting was to set a course forward for the Chapter.  After an extensive discussion about our social and financial interests, we came to a decision that we would like to keep the chapter together and register it with the national organization for the coming year.

New Business

Gene Will moved that we renew our charter with the national organization of Experimental

Aircraft Association.  Mike Schnell seconded the motion and the motion carried.  Mike will file

the necessary paperwork, and submit our registration fee to Gene for payment.

Dick Murray moved that we se annual dues a $20.00.  Gene Will provided a second, and

This motion also passed.

After a general discussion about how often meetings should be scheduled for the remainder of

this year, Ann Vogel moved the we hold four more meetings in 2016 on April 16 at 10:00am,

June 9 at 7:00pm, August 11 at 7:00pm and October 15 at 10:00am.  Gene Will seconded this

motion.  Neil Winget moved to amend this motion to designate the October meeting as our

Annual Meeting where organizational issues could be settled.  The motion to amend was

seconded by Dick Murray.   The amendment passed, and, thereafter, the amended motion also

passed.

Election of Officers for 2016

Marc then moved on to the issue of election of officers for the current year.

Dick Murray nominated Ken Boyd for President and Mike Schnell seconded the nomination

Dick Murray nominated Matt Bailey for Vice President and Marc Hines seconded the

nomination.

Ken Boyd nominated Gene Will for Treasurer and Ann Vogel seconded the nomination.

Dick Murray nominated Ann Vogel for Secretary an Matt Bailey seconded the nomination.

Neil WInget moved that the nominations be closed and Mike Schnell seconded his motion.

This motion passed and the slate of officers listed above was confirmed.

At this point, Neil Winget moved to adjourn the meeting, Mike Schnell seconded the motion

and the motion passed.  Meeting adjourned.

September 13, 2015

The regularly scheduled meeting of EAA Chapter 922 was called to order by President Marc Hines at 2:00 pm in the terminal building at KAXV.

Members present were:  Marc Hines, Ken Boyd, Mike Schnell, Matt Bailey.

Old Business

Members were wondering about the status of Gene's annual hangar party.  Without Gene present, little was known about this event and its immediate future.

Mike Schnell reviewed the Young Eagles flights associated with Neil Armstrong Museum and their Space Camp.  Mike flew, and our friends from Van Wert brought another Cherokee to help out.  The two of us flew 28 kids and sent them on their way with smiles on their faces.  This time, the museum was able to fund our efforts tot the tune of $250.  We burned $172 worth of fuel, so the remainder with remain as a donation to the chapter.

New Business

Matt Bailey gave us an update of the Airport news.

The Annual Waco Homecoming fly-in will take place at the museum in Trow, OH on September 18 thrlugh 20.

Several other fly-in events werer discussed.

Not having a forum present, no official business was conducted.

Our next regular meeting will be held at 2:00 pm on October11 in the terminal at KAXV.  Come join us and bring some ideas for future undertakings.

Treasurer's Report -- Treasurer absent

OLD BUSINESS

Young Eagles Day will be June 13, 2015 at KAXV.  (June 20 will be our rain-date)  Neil committed to setting up anotnher interview on WLIO during the week prior to the event.  Mike said he would help with the interview, unless someone else would like to do it.

Space Camp -- The Neil Armstrong Air and Space Museum is holding their Space Camp again this Summer, and woiuld like us to take the participants up for Young Eagles flights again.  This year, their will be two camps, one in June, and another in August.  Each camp will be limited to no more than 30 participants.  The consensus opinion was that we only fly kids who have not had a ride with us in past years.  Neil and Mike will meet with them to investigate this event further.

Regular meeting, March 8, 2015

President Marc Hines called the meeting to order at 2:00 pm with the following members present:
Marc Hines, Jason Stechschulte, Gene Will, Matt Bailey, and Mike Schnell.
Neil Winget was absent due to recent knee-replacement surgery.  He is recovering nicely.

Old Business

We discussed our upcoming Young Eagles Day on June 13, 2015.  Neil was absent, so no final plans were discussed, but it was noted that is is coming soon, and that we will need aircraft, pilots, and ground support personnel.

New Business

Several members shared reviews of recent and upcoming travel.  On Easter weekend, Mike will be attending the Classic Fighters over Omaka airshow at Blenheim, New Zealand.  He will have a detailed review at our next meeting.

Possible destinations for future activities were discussed.  A "road trip" to the Museum at Urbana, OH to check on the progress of their B-17 restoration seemed to be a popular choice.

January 11, 2015

President Marc Hines called the meeting to order at 2:00 pm.  Members present included Marc Hines, Jason Stechschulte, Todd Bills, Neil Winget, Ann Vogel, Mike Schnell and one guest, Mark Gessler.

We received Chapter dues ($25) from Ann Vogel, Todd Bills, Neil Winget, and Marc Hines.  These funds were subsequently passed on to Chapter Treasurer, Gene Will.

OLD BUSINESS

We reopened discussion concerning our Chapter Banquet.  It was decided that we would hold this event at JT's in Saint Marys on Tuesday, February 10, at 6:00 pm.  Neil volunteered to make arrangements with the restaurant.  We will plan to order off the menu.

NEW BUSINESS

Young Eagles Chairman, Neil Winget, brought up the issue of holding our annual Young Eagles Day for 2015.  After some discussion, the group agreed to hold this event on the National Young Eagles Day again this year.  That will fall on June 13.  Neil volunteered to handle the publicity.  All those interested in helping or flying should notify Neil.

A motion was offered to adjourn by Todd Bills, and seconded by Mike Schnell.  The motion carried -- meeting adjourned.

December 14, 2014

President Mike Schnell called our December meeting to order at 2:02PM  

Present were Mike Schnell, Jason Stechschulte, Marc Hines, Ken Boyd, Tom Fortman, Neil Winget, and Richard Murray. Guest was Ann Vogel. Bob Sachs emailed he had a meeting conflict this date and Todd Bills texted he was spending time with his daughter who is home from college.

Mike asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes posted on the webpage. Being none the minutes were approved as posted.

No treasurer - no treasurer report..

No old business was discussed.

Mike read the list of officers that need to be elected. He then suggested Gene continue as treasurer because of the issues with getting signature cards in place with a change.

Richard suggested someone else in the chapter needed to be on the signature card as measure of safety should anything unforeseen happen to Gene. Discussion seemed to support this action.

The floor was opened for nominations.

Richard nominated Marc for nominated as president. Neil moved the nominations be closed. Ken seconded.
By a unanimous vote of the members present Marc was elected President

Neil nominated Jason Stechschulte as vice president. Marc moved the nominations be closed. Ken seconded.

Richard nominated Mike Schnell as secretary. Neil moved the nominations be closed Marc seconded

Mike appointed Neil as young eagles coordinator for 2015.

Ken announced Unique awards has a video on their facebook page of Ken's planed being trimmed out

Mike reported on the Chili cookout at Lyons was a lot of fun. Grass strip with a creek in the middle, a Big pot of chillii and Tony Paco hot dogs.

Neil said he will be getting a new knee in March.

Does anyone have any interest in going out to eat as a group. The Log Cabin was suggested.

Mike passed the gavel to Marc because he had to be at another committment.

Discussion continued about where to gather for an annual dinner - La Piazza - JT's - CJ's 

It was determined to solicit suggestions from the members. Send your suggestions of where you would like to eat as a group to this address by December 21st.

November 9, 2014

Marc Hines Neil Winget, Jason Stechschulte, Richard Murray, Ken, Boyd, Todd Bills, Bob Chandler, Bob Sachs,  Matt Bailey were present. Mike Schnell and Gene Will had emailed they would be absent.

Vice President Marc Hines called the meeting to order at 2:02 PM

The minutes were posted ont the website and upon a motion by Neil, seconded by Todd, the minutes were approved as posted.

Richard read the Treasurer's Report submitted by Gene. Remind folks, 2014 dues are due.  Four have recently paid 2014 dues, and along with calendars sales, the checkbook balance is $296.76. 

It was believed Gene meant the 2015 dues are due and they are $25.00

Old business - Event under discussion was a visit to the museum at Port Clinton. It was suggested as a destination we might want to consider next.

Two members from Kokomo EAA Chapter 235 passed by after visiting the Armstrong Air and Space Museum. Their chapter has 80 members.

Mike sent a note reminding us of the calendars at $8.00 are in and available.Jjason, Neil,and Todd each took one and $24.00 was collected and passed to Matt to give to Gene on Tuesday.

New business - Jason bought a 172 with his wife. Not sure if he is keeping  it at  Van Wert or Lima. Once his wife began taking lessons it was an easy decision to make the investment. (HINT fellows two can fly cheaper than one)

Lakefield is putting in new hangars and construction is well under way laying the taxiway to the hangars. 

Ken has his stripes and 'N' number  on the plane. Insurance is still a catch 22 though. EAA wants him to have 100 hrs pilot time before they will write a policy.

Richard shared the saga of the champ and his FAA inspection with two Air Safety Inspectors from the Special Emphasis Investigation Team. One was from Phoenix and the other from Omaha.

Neil shared the licensing of the challenger story and how the plane got to be inspected twice.

Richard shared the news that Tina got her log books back after two years. The final action against the mechanic who made fraudulent entries anounted to a ninety day suspension of his mechanics license.

October 12, 2014

Bills, Murray, Heiby, Sachs, Vogel all reported they would miss the meeting

The meeting was called to order at 2:00 pm local time by Mike Schnell, President.

Members present included Neil Winget, Ken Boyd, Gene Will, Mike Schnell, and our newest member, Tom Fortman.  Tom has been a past member of our Chapter since it's beginning and has paid dues for the coming year.

Treasurer Gene Will reported a balance of $189.76, excluding Tom's dues.

OLD BUSINESS

We reviewed our trip to the "Dawn Patrol Rendezvous" at the Air Force Museum on September 27 and 28 (we had a couple of people go down on Sunday).  All had a great time and spent varying amounts of money.  The Rotary engine demonstration got high marks, as did the Eighth Air Force replica base outside the museum.

Ken Boyd gave us an update on the progress of his RV9.  His current issue is obtaining insurance for the aircraft during the time the initial 40 hours are flown.  Otherwise, he is almost ready to fly.

Members were reminded about Ann Vogel's auction next Saturday.

NEW BUSINESS

We have received materials to order 2015 EAA calendars.  Gene suggested that we get a dozen and sell to whomever wants them.  Mike will procure them at a cost of $6.99 each plus $8.00 shipping for the whole bunch.  This year's calendar features a Great Lakes biplane (built by Waco Classic In Battle Creek) on the front cover.

Mike presented printed materials about Ford Motor Company's purchase program for EAA members, so if you are looking for anything Ford, check this program out.

Mike also discussed his recent visit to the Gomer, OH Historical Museum, which featured a display about the "Arctic Snow Cruiser," a vehicle designed and built in the late 1930s to travel across the ice and snow in Antartica.  It was a large vehicle, with quarters for a crew of 4, a galley, a repair shop, and a mount on top for a Beechcraft Staggerwing!  This strange vehicle made a stop in Gomer on its journey from Minnesota to the East coast, where it was to depart for the Southern icecap.  Pictures are available!

Are we going as a group on the 27th?

Discussion was whether to drive down individually or as a group.  The suggestion to meet as a group at AXV and car pool down and those from the south would meet the group at the event. The time decided was 7:45 to arrive at AXV with an 8:00 AM departure arriving at the museum by 9:15 where everyone going would meet at that time.

The museum event will be mailed to all on the email list. Look for the forwarded email to follow the minutes

Bob Sachs asked if there was a membership list. Officially none exists beyond what is published on the web page under the members tab. There is a lot of information at http://eaa922.blogspot.com and sometimes we don't always have it maintained up to date unless someone discovers an error and reports it..

WACO had the WACO homecoming. They were able to acquire the needed land to established the airfield and add an additional building. Steve from Louisvilel was there to give rides at $90 per flight with a portion to the museum. There was a plane from New Hampshire who hadn't been home since Oshkosh. Lots of people and photo ops. Robin Williams from Traverse City, Michigan had one of the early YMF-2's in attendance.

Gene took a B-17 ride but the ceiling was so low is was like a crop dusting ride. He got to meet a pilot who flew seven missions over Germany and got shot down on his eighth spending the rest of the war in a POW camp.

Total cost for the cookout at Gene's was mentioned as meat/buns 160.00, pork-n-beans/etc 120.00 total in it 280.00. Contributions were appreciated and accepted.

Neil shared his trip to Alaska.

Mike raised the question of having an airshow. Richard mentioned a chili fly-in.

It was mentioned before the meeting and after as well that Paul Tebbe is in room St Rita's rehabilitating after suffering a stroke following surgery earlier this summer. He is on the 7th floor room 68. He wants to sell his Hyperbipe if anyone knows someone looking for a fun agile aerobatic aircraft.

EAA 922 members met Sunday, August 10 at AXV. Members

present were: Gene Will, Ken Boyd, Neil Winget and Marc Hines. Also

in attendance was Ann Vogel, guest.

Marc Hines, Vice-President presided over the meeting. Gene

reported a balance of $164.76 in the treasury.

The recent Young Eagles from the Space Camp event was

discussed. Some suggestions were made to think about in future years:

only take new-time fliers; only take so many kids; only take ages 8 -17

year old kids. Some of the students that got a ride this year had been up

in a small aircraft for as many of three times. Of course it would help if

there were more pilots available.

The August cookout was discussed. Gene has issued the

invitations. This year Gene has ordered baked beans and coleslaw along

with the meat, etc. Members are asked to bring a covered dish (not

beans or slaw). Members will also help Gene with the expenses. Bring

lawn chairs. Set up will be Wednesday evening around 6 pm. Bring any

extra tables you have at that time. This year it will be a “Wings and

Wheels” event. Show off your aircraft and or your classic or fancy car.

This is the 15th year for this popular event.

Neil showed a video of his son Para-Gliding in Europe.

Mike called the meeting to order at 1:57PM

Jon reported he left the Young Eagle forms in the office and they haven't been sent in yet. No definite number could be ascertained.

Thank yous were sent to Ralph  and Gary for flying and Russ Hovey for his generous donation of fuel.

There were a number of people who were adult and wanted rides. Aparentkly the advertising did not make this clear.

We are earning credits giving Young Eagle rides and using them for the academy at Oshkosh. The WACO museum wants to use our credits if we aren't using them. We are going to wait and see.

Ken handed out paperwork for the WWI fly-in. Discussion followed.

WACO fly-in is two weeks before the WWI fly-in.

Mike went to AOIH to do some grass landings and there was an X on the grass.

Neil wanted to go to OSH and is looking for someone to go. They wanted to do three days. His travel partner has started chemo treatment and is doubtful he will make the trip.

Mike's WACO returned the day after Young Eagles.

Todd is going to check out in Mike's Cherokee 180.

EAA wants to start some type of interactive roster tool. The E-news had an excellent article about tying down aircraft.

Ken invited everyone to stop out and look at his plane which is all painted and ready to be assembled.

Todd took his daughter to the Dayton Airshow and really liked the Blue Angles and the Fat Albert demonstration.

Bungee Park had the large scale models flying yesterday at the RC club. Gene mentioned an F4U Corsair was particularly appealing.

Mike mentioned the Armstrong Air and Space Museum would also like to have the space camp participants be given air rides in August.

Mike mentioned there is a flight program for adults the EAA is sponsoring.

Mike reconvened a meeting to permit Gene to speak about the annual dinner. He mentioned the date as August 14 and that something needed to be done about insuring a balanced meal was provided. His suggestion to pick up beans and coleslaw for the antici[ated guests with everyone contributing to the cost. He will provide the brats and hamburgers, Todd volunteered to provide the drinks.

Old Business - Ken reaffirmed the dates for the group tour this year - the last Sarurday in September

Mike's WACO is still in Michigan, supposedly finished and now planning on going up next week. It took seven weeks to get the fuel pumps recalibrated.

Mike visited the Air Force Museum on the anniversary of D-Day and recommends the museum as a place to visit.

Ken got his wings on the plane and they are ready for paint.

A discussion about how to handle walk-in registration followed. It was a consensus that walk-in people would be handled if time permits after pre-registered people are flown.

Mike asked about who will handle ground support. Neil is one. Is Dick Heiby available? Will Marc be a helper? Ken is going to be two. Ann Vogel is helping Jon

New business - none - Ken confirmed Sep 27 is the date for this years outing to the WWI re-enactment at the Museum of the Air Force. Details are being developed.

Mike is going the 3, 4, and 5th of April 2015 to New Zealand for an Air Show and if WACO Classic doesn't get their act together, sadly he will not be flying his dream plane before then.

Treasurer report - $139.76 of which $30.00 is snow pool money

Ken moved to donate the snow pool money $30 to the treasury. Seconded by Jon. Motion Carried

In AXV news, Marty Bevill has flown his Bonansa west to California and sold the Tomahawk to Brent Richter. Paul LeBlond is going to re-instate his CFI and do instruction until Brent gets his licenses. The hangars at AXV are still full with two TBM's and a couple of Cirrus on the field.
